چکیده

In the last years ontologies are being used in the development of pervasive computing applications. It is habitual their use for facilitating the interoperability among context-aware applications and the entities that may enter in the context at any time. This chapter presents OntoHealth: an ontology applied to health pervasive environment and a tool to its processing. The main idea is that a hospital could be seen as this pervasive environment, where someone, through ubiquitous computing, engages a range of computational devices and systems simultaneously, in the course of ordinary activities, and may not necessarily even be aware that they are doing so. With the proposed ontology and the tool for its processing, the medical tasks can be shared by all components of this pervasive environment. If these relationships have appropriate names that identify their meaning, a human can understand it directly, as well as a computer program can assume the semantics of a relationship and work systematically through it. The process of building ontologies is not a trivial task, considering that for its definition, it is necessary a specialized knowledge about a specific domain to avoid any kind of ambiguity or retorts related to the validity of it. Therefore, this chapter has as main goal the construction of an ontology to describe the domain of a hospital that can be used for interaction between the entities in a pervasive environment, and the implementation of a system that allows its processing. This chapter is divided as follows. The next section describes pervasive environments and ontologies. The following section describes the use of ontologies in pervasive environments. Section after that, presents OntoHealth: the ontology itself and its processing. The related and future works is presented before the conclusion.

A semantic-aware role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments

Access control in open and dynamic Pervasive Computing Environments (PCEs) is a very complex mechanism and encompasses various new requirements. In fact, in such environments, context information should be used in access control decision process; however, it is not applicable to gather all context information completely and accurately all the time. Thus, a suitable access control model for PCEs...

A context-sensitive dynamic role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments

Resources and services are accessible in pervasive computing environments from anywhere and at any time. Also, due to ever-changing nature of such environments, the identity of users is unknown. However, users must be able to access the required resources based on their contexts. These and other similar complexities necessitate dynamic and context-aware access control models for such environmen...

Natural Language Expression of User Policies in Pervasive Computing Environments

The pervasive computing environments of tomorrow will typically consist of a large heterogeneous collection of networked services. In an ongoing research project, we are exploring ways to enable non-technical users to configure their environment. Our architecture includes an ontology that precisely describes the available services, a formal language for defining user policies and a middleware i...

How DoesStrawson Unify Epistemology, Ontology and Logic

Strawson’s conception of analysis as a ‘connective linguistic analysis’ makes it possible for him to achieve an indefinitely large range of ideas or concepts among them are certain numbers of fundamental, general and pervasive concepts or concept-types which not only are pre-theoretical or ahistorical, but also together constitute a structural framework only within whichlogic, ontology and epis...

An ontology for context-aware pervasive computing environments

This document describes COBRA-ONT an ontology for supporting pervasive context-aware systems. COBRA-ONT, expressed in the Web Ontology Language OWL, is a collection of ontologies for describing places, agents, events and their associated properties in an intelligent meeting room domain. This ontology is developed as a part of the Context Broker Architecture (CoBrA), a broker-centric agent archi...
